Household survey data analyst (part time)

Looking for an interesting and meaningful part time job? The Development Fund seeks an intern for an assignment related to data management and analysis of endline household surveys. The position is short term, part time with flexible hours, and suitable for a student.

About the position

The Development Fund works with marginalized people in rural communities to end hunger, poverty, and injustice by strengthening climate adaptation, biodiversity, and sustainable food systems. The Development Fund and local partners are currently conducting endline household surveys (HHS) in Ethiopia, Somalia, Guatemala, Nepal and Malawi. Data have been collected with Kobo Toolbox to measure indicators on food security, dietary diversity, agricultural production, vulnerability to climate hazards and income. The results will be used by DF staff and partners to measure achievements in our programme, while also feeding into our result report.

We are looking for a student - ideally at Master’s or Ph.D. level in a relevant field, but well qualified students at Bachelor's level can also apply - to help us manage the HHS datasets and conduct the analysis required for the endline study. The successful candidate will be supervised by DF’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning advisor. Country programme teams (partners and/or DF staff) will provide input and support as needed.

Tasks:

  • Organize datasets downloaded from Kobo Toolbox and perform data cleaning
  • Review sampling methodologies and design appropriate weighting protocols
  • Calculate indicator values and summary statistics, according to the endline analysis plan
  • Prepare draft reports with key results to be used by country programme teams for interpretation and planning

Qualifications:

  • Interest and competence in thematic areas like rural livelihoods, natural resource management, food security, agriculture in developing countries or other relevant topics
  • Good knowledge of statistics, survey design and analysis.
  • Strong data management and analysis skills.
  • English proficiency, Spanish is an asset.
  • Advanced experience with relevant software for data collection and analysis (we use excel and Kobo Toolbox)

Soft skills:

  • Systematic
  • Flexible
  • Positive attitude
  • Able to deliver on time

Further information and how to apply

The assignment has a duration of 3 months (from 1 September – 1 December, or as agreed), at part time basis, equivalent of 18,75 hours per week. For the first two weeks of the assignment (onboarding) the intern is preferred to be present at The Development Fund's office in Oslo, but other arrangements can be considered. For the rest of the assignment, the intern can choose to work remotely from home office. Salary compensation in line with DF internal policies.
