More than Rain – Report and seminar

The consequences of global warming are increasingly felt on all continents. People struggle to make ends meet as natural resources become scarce, biodiversity decreases, land areas appropriate for agriculture and cultivation diminish and weather conditions worsen due to climate change. However, farmers have for thousands of years had to adapt to changing conditions and have therefore developed various techniques for overcoming variations.

The Development Fund has for 30 years focused our work on linking environmental issues and community development. A brand new report on climate adaptation and poverty reduction – More than rain – takes the issue of climate change a step further from cutting greenhouse gas emissions to what the issues of climate adaptation. Many people have no choice but to adapt to a changing climate. You will find the report below, together with a summary, case studies and presentations from the launch seminar. You can download all the information you need, or we can send it to you by post if you want a printed copy. The project is funded by Norad.

Utfordrende og engasjerende «Mer enn regn»-seminar

Climate adaptation: The next step in a changing climate

The Development Fund recognises the need for cutting emissions in greenhouse gases. The world's climate is already changing, and will continue to change even if gas emissions are reduced. There is a great need to move beyond the issue of emissions and challenge the broad issue of climate adaptation. The Development Fund will follow up the issues of climate adaptation during the climate negociations in Poland in December this year.

Mer enn regn – Risiko ved klimaendringer, sårbarhet og tilpasningsstrategier på landsbygda i Nepal

I tillegg til de klimatrusler og farer bønder i Nepal vanligvis står overfor, har omlegging av landbruket i Nepal forsterket bønders sårbarhet. Tiltak som støtter opp om bevaring av biomangfold og utvikling av lokalt tilpassede landbruksmetoder og teknikker er viktige tilpasningsstrategier til klimaendringer.

Krever klimatilpasning på FN-toppmøte i Polen

FNs klimatoppmøte 2008 åpnet i Poznan, Polen, 2. desember. I to uker skal det forhandles om verdens framtid, målet er en god og bindene klimaavtale. Utviklingsfondet krever kraftig satsing på klimatilpasning: Konkret og bindende støtte til at fattige land kan tilpasse seg lokale endringer i klima.
